Richard Dion’s hairstyling career began in Los Angeles during the mid-1970’s; a highly-influential era widely regarded as the “Renaissance of Hair.” He had the privilege of obtaining an apprenticeship with the leading platform artist for Vidal Sassoon, whose creative genius led the way for the dramatic change in the world of hair.

The same methods Dion learned that brought Sassoon international acclaim, remain a timeless gold standard for the industry.

It wasn’t long before Richard’s talents helped him become a salon owner in the Los Angeles area. He owned two California salons before opening Dion’s South in Franklin, Tennessee. In all of his salons, both past and present, he trains his own apprentices in the classic Sassoon method as well as teaching his own systems. Richard continues to translate his methodology to current trends, always offering his clients something new and exciting.

Dion was consecutively voted Nashville’s TOP Stylist by the Nashville Scene's “Best of 2006” and “Best of 2007” Reader’s Polls, and has been ranked in the top three numerous times.

Dion's South is ever-evolving as Richard artistically encourages, challenges, and educates his staff.

Val attended and graduated from New Directions Hair Academy in Nashville. After Cosmetology school she assisted Richard Dion, and trained under his expertise. Originally from Nashville, Val graduated from Christ Presbyterian Academy in 1996. She went on to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Business. After college, she decided to pursue her true passion, doing hair.

After leaving her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, Erica moved to Nashville in 2002 to pursue her dream of becoming a hairstylist. She was trained in Nashville at a pivot point school, where she received her cosmetology license. Soon after, she joined the team at Dion’s, and began her salon training under owner, Richard Dion.

Email Meg

A native of Franklin, Meg moved immediately after high school to pursue a Marketing Degree at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Soon after, she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a hairstylist. She was initially attracted to Dion’s its reknowned apprenticeship program, but once she walked through the front door, she knew it would be a perfect fit!.

Email Lynette

At the age of 18, Lynnette became a licensed professional cosmetologist, graduating from of the International Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. A Chicago native, in 2007 she came to nashville to join her good friend, Meg Howe as a member of the Dion’s team. Lynnette has years of experience specializing in all areas of the beauty industry, including color analysis cutting and waxing.

Email Bethany

Originally from California, Bethany has known that she wanted to do hair since she was a little girl! Upon graduating from Cosmetology School, she joined the team at Dion’s, where she refined her skills through an apprenticeship under Richard Dion. Now a successful senior stylist, she continues to pursue excellence through continuing education efforts both at home and abroad.

Having been involved in the entertainment world since the age of seven. Courtney moved to Nashville in 1997 to attend Middle Tennessee State University as a Recording Industry Major. Loving all types of music, she understood how important it is for artists to “look the part.” She developed a keen interest in the art of hairstyling and followed that passion to Volunteer Beauty Academy after graduating from MTSU.

Email Whitney

At an early age, her mother saw her daughter’s hidden artistic talent and encouraged her to explore it. That creativity and an innate caring for people led Whitney to enrole in cosmetology school at Rogers Hair Academy in her hometown of Evansville, Indiana. After graduation, Whitney sought out Dion’s for its solid reputation and reknown as a training salon. She now offers her talent and experience as a senior stylist.

Lyndsey is an artist on several levels. She grew up with a love for painting but also sought self-expression through experimenting with her hairstyles. That fascination led her to cosmetology school in her hometown of Lawrenceberg, TN, and eventually, to Nashville. When a family friend suggested Dion’s South’s highly-recommended apprenticeship program, she knew that she’d found the place she wanted to be.

Bethany was in middle school when her family moved to Franklin from the Dayton, Ohio suburb of Beaver Creek. She had always enjoyed doing fun things with her own hair, and soon found friends and family members requesting her to share her creative ability, doing up-dos for them for weddings, proms, and other special events. That inspiration led her to cosmetology school and eventually, to Richard Dion, whose intern program and exclusive reputation impressed her. Now she’s the one doing the impressing!

Jennifer has always been committed to being the best. So after graduating from cosmetology school, she sought to find a salon where she could grow, learn, and continue in her education. At the suggestion of former classmate, and Dion’s colleague, Whitney Raymes, who preceded her by a year, she chose Dion’s South for its attractive apprentice and intern programs.

Megan Lynn Holbert grew up caring about people. From an early age, her career goal was to become a nurse, but when she was 17, she decided to explore a path that would allow her to practice a different kind of medicine. A friend’s Mom owned a salon and Megan saw first-hand the power that feeling good about onesself could have over people. Now as a senior stylist at Dion’s, she’s making it happen every day.

Lee Davis is a humble guy with an artistic flair for life, and when he was 18 years old he decided that the canvas upon which he wished to express himself was hair. The similar artistry and expertise of Richard Dion led him to Dion’s South, where he learned to express his craft under the master’s watchful eye. But even now as a senior stylist, he won’t stand on his laurels. His philosophy is to always strive for excellence each and every day.

Mary’s cosmetology career began in an epiphany of self-discovery. She had always wanted to enter the field of Art Therapy, a wellness discipline that uses art to improve the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual well-being of its patients. However, while working part-time at a salon in high school, she also discovered the wonderful effects of ‘hair therapy.’ She arrived at work, stressed, but left, refreshed!

Ashley Owens is a wonderfully artistic and creative senior hair stylist at Dion’ South...but she probably wouldn’t fare all that poorly as a real estate agent either. Seems Ashley already has that industry’s primary tennet down cold: location, Location, LOCATION!. After graduation from the Paul Mitchell school in Nashville, when Ashley began considering salons to work for the answer seemed obvious.

Email Amanda

Even at the age of five, in her hometown of Amarillo, TX, Amanda always knew she wanted to cut hair for a living — and so did her little brother — her first ‘client’ at age four. But not to worry, little brother didn't mind. He liked the way his sister cut his bangs (...no matter how short they were). And so, Amanda’s career path was set. Now as a senior stylist at Dion’s South, everyone likes the way she cuts hair!

As a stylist, Mary McNatt is the total package. Prior to completion of her cosmetology training at the Paul Mitchell school in Nashville, she obtained her Bachelors of Arts degree from the Middle Tennessee State University School of Fashion Design. Additionally, having completed an apprenticeship under salon owner Richard Dion, Mary has engaged in numerous training endeavors, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Christina arrived at Dion’s South in 2005 with an already-lengthy resume of excellence. Born in Jackson, Mississipi, she received her cosmetology education in Longview, Texas, where later she would also mentor under Butch Pelaia, whom she describes as, “the best colorist in East Texas.” Her list of industry-standard training assignments ranges from Dallas to San Francisco; from Kérastase to Loreal.

Email Ariel

Ariel arrived in Tennessee with her family in 2005 and immediately fell in love with Downtown Franklin. The Plant City, FL native had long since dreamed of being a stylist, and in 2008 entered cosmtology school to make her dream a reality. Since joining Dion’s in 2009, Ariel has plied her craft; adding knowledge in weekly classes with Richard Dion, and offering her own unique sense of style to meet her clients’ needs.

Don’t let the playful nickname fool ’ya; the irrepressible Amanda (Gosh) Dang might not seem too serious, but when it comes to being a stylist, she’s all business. She literally grew up in the salon her Mom opened after moving from Houston to Nashville when she was nine years old. She became fascinated with all the possibilities being a stylist could offer as a creative outlet, and at age 17 decided to make it her career.

Trey is a man who knows what he wants. When he decided to become a stylist, he wanted to learn from the best, so he chose the Paul Mitchell school. When deciding on a place to begin his pro career, he insisted on a creative environment with a reputation for excellence. He chose Dion’s South. Having now completed an apprenticeship with Richard Dion, he wants something else: to offer his clients everything!.

When you're good at something, oftentimes, a couple of things happen. One, you want to become the best, and two, you want to share that talent with others. Current Dion’s South apprentice, Kelly Ritchie is well on her way to accomplishing both of those goals. Having always had a knack for coloring her own hair, Kelly became motivated to take her talent to the next level.

Email Hannah

Passion can mean everything in a person’s life — especially in that of a stylist. Hannah Bryant has always had a passion for hair; now that passion is really taking her places. With a sister already living in there, in 2009 she moved from Padukah, KY to Nashville to act upon her dream of becoming a stylist. Following cosmetology school she discovered Dion’s and immediately knew that this was where she wanted to be.
